• AMELANCHIER/SERVICE BERRY - FLOWERING

Amelanchier — Service berry

"Autumn Brilliance"

Height: 20 ft. • Width: 15 ft. • LEAF COLOR: Persistent leaves, clean summer foliage green turning to red, orange in the autumn. CULTURE: Well drained moist soil, will tolerate full sun or partial shade. GROWTH RATE: fast. FLOWER: White in the spring. FRUIT: Berry-like, small round 1/4" to 1/3" diameter, changing from green to red and finally purplish black, birds love them.

Malus — Flowering crabapple

"Adirondack Crabapple"

Height: 20 ft. • Width: 12 ft. • Appearance: Leathery dark green leaves. The foliage is highly tolerant to cedar apple rust, apple scab, and powdery mildew. Habit: An upright growth slow to moderate. Flower: Dark carmine buds are evident for weeks in early spring before bursting forth in an annual explosion of large white "apple blossoms'. Fruit: Autumn paints the small persistent fruit a bright orange-red 1/2" diameter.

"Cardinal"

Height: 15 ft. • Width: 20 ft. • Appearance: Leaf color glossy dark red foliage, most disease resistant red-leaved crabapple. Spreading, flat-topped with age, good sub for "Royalty". Flower bright red few fruits formed.

"Cinderella Crabapple" (cinzam)

Height: 8 ft. • Width: 5 ft. • LEAVES: Dark green, HABIT: Dwarf upright oval to rounded at maturity, grafted on a 42" stem. FRUIT: Small 1/4" diameter persisting into late autumn. FLOWER: Tiny red buds opening to snow-white flowers. Disease resistant. A Lake County Nursery 'ZAM' introduction.

"Coralburst Crabapple"

Height: 15 ft. • Width: 15 ft. • LEAVES: Fine textured, deeply cut  green foliage gives this crabapple a delicate appearance, HABIT: Upright rounded vase shape slender limbs. FLOWER: Later spring bloom in white. FRUIT: Tiny yellow-golden fruit.

"Golden Raindrops"

Height: 20 ft. • Width: 15 ft. • Appearance: Leaf color dark green in summer, can develop orange-red fall color. Habit: Rounded. Flower: Single red buds open to deep pink, 1 1/2" diameter. Fruit: Small glossy red, changing to orange, less than 1/2" diameter very attractive in fall and plentiful.

"Lollipop Crabapple" (lollizam)

Height: 8-10 ft. • Width: 8-10 ft. • LEAVES: Dense green foliage. HABIT: Compact round head grafted on a 42" stem. Maintains its symmetrical form with out pruning. FLOWER: Prolific white blooms turn to FRUIT: 3/4" Golden-Amber. Disease resistant. A Lake County Nursery 'ZAM' introduction.

"Louisa"

Height: 15 ft. • Width: 15 ft. • Appearance: Weeping branches with pink flowers in spring and dark green leaves.

"Purple Prince Crabapple"

Height: 20 ft. • Width: 20 ft. • Appearance: Leaf color deep purplish green leaves. Habit rounded. Flower: single, carmine-red buds open to bright red. Fruit: Maroon, 1/2" diameter.

Height: 20 ft. • Width: 20 ft. • Appearance: Upright tree, becoming rounded with age with reddish-green leaves. In mid-spring, red buds open to dark pinkish red flowers followed by dark red-purple fruit.

"Royal Gem Crabapple" (fridlund)

Height: 5-8 ft. • Width: 5-8 ft. • LEAVES: New leaves emerge crimson red-green, maturing to dark green in summer. Yellow fall color. HABIT: Compact upright round. FLOWER: Single rose-red FRUIT: Small dark red, orange 3/8". Originated by Dr. Fridlund, Washington State University and trademarked by Carlton Plants.

"Royal Raindrops"

Height: 20 ft. • Width: 15 ft. • LEAVES: A Deep purple cutleaf foliage to present a unique orab. Deeply lobed leaves and upright spreading HABIT form with good branching and density are inherited from its Golden Raindrop parent. Fall color is bright pinkish red. FLOWER: Bright pinkish red late in spring. FRUIT: Bright pinkish red developing late in spring and holding thru winter. Sprout Free root stock.

"Spring Snow Crabapple"

Height: 25 ft. • Width: 22 ft. • Appearance: Dense, upright tree with oval, bright green leaves. Abundant fragrant white flowers are borne in late spring. Fruit is seldom if ever produced, considered "fruitless".

"Sugar Tyme"

Height: 18 ft. • Width: 15 ft. • Appearance: Leaf color crisp dark green foliage. Habit: upright oval, vigorous growing. Flower: Pale pink buds open to sugar white fragrant flowers. Fruit: Yellow-red blush, 1/2" diameter, abundant, persistent.

"Sargentii Tina Crabapple"

Height: 5-7 ft. • Width: 12 ft. • Appearance: Habit dwarf Sargent type with low-spreading form, grafted on 42" stem. Flower: Red buds open to single white flowers 3/4" diameter. Fruit: bright red, 5/16" diameter.

Height: 30 ft. • Width: 25 ft. • Appearance: Weeping branches with pink, double flowers in spring and dark green leaves in summer changing to yellow in fall.

Height: 12 ft. • Width: 12 ft. • Appearance: Semi-weeping branches with white flowers in spring and dark green leaves in summer changing to gold in fall.


• HORSECHESTNUT

Aesculus x carnea — Red Horsechestnut

"Fort McNair

Height: 30-35' ft. • Width: 35-40' ft. • Appearance: A small rounded tree. Flowers are deep pink with a yellow throat, Favored by hummingbirds. Coarse dark green leaves. Growth rate slow to medium. Fruit capsule 1-1.5" long, round husks light brown prickly, seed inside is glossy brown. Fort McNair selected at the fort of the same name in Washington D.C.

Aesculus Hippocastanum — Common Horsechestnut

"Baumannii"  (no fruits) Sold out (not bring back)

Height: 50-70' ft. • Width: 40-60' ft. • Appearance: A large oval rounded tree. Flowers are prominent double white impressive in may or june. Full sun is best. Leaves: large, 7-leaflet, palmately-compound leaves. Leaf scorch and blotch can be serious problems and occurs to some degree nearly every year. Avoid hot dry locations. Young leaves and fruit are considered poisonous. Fall color, poor yellow or just brown.

Height: 35 ft. • Width: 15 ft. • Appearance: Leaf color summer glossy dark green. Habit: narrow conical with profuse white flowers in spring and leaves turning maroon in fall. Bears spherical brown fruit. Growth rate: 35' x 15' in 15years.

Height: 35 ft. • Width: 20 ft. • Appearance: Pyramidal in shape with white flowers in spring and leaves turning yellow to red in fall. Bears spherical brown fruit.


• REDBUD

Cercis canadensis

"Eastern Redbud"

Height: 20-30 ft. • Width: 25-35 ft. • Appearance: Usually a small tree, flat-topped crown, very handsome with its gracefully ascending branches. Leaves: alternate, simple broadly heart-shaped, 3" to 5" in. high and wide. New growth emerging reddish purple and changes to a dark lustrous green in summer. Fall color is usually yellow-green, leaves appear tired by late summer. Flower: perfect, reddish purple in bud, opening to a rosy pink with purplish tinge, open early in spring, often on old bark, before foliage. This is a beautiful show first in spring and long lasting. Fruit: true pod (legume), brown 2" to 3" in. long, 1/2" in. wide, maturity in fall. Usually an found as an under story tree in nature, will tolerate full sun to light shade.

"Lavender Twist"

Height: 8 ft. • Width: 10 ft. • Appearance: Graceful weeping form very unique and lovely selection. Leaves: heart shaped (same as Eastern Redbud) lustrous green during summer. Flowers: Deep pink emerging before foliage usually on old bark long lasting.

Height: 20-30' Width: 25-30' • Appearance: Small globe-shaped tree. Leaves: heart shaped (same as Eastern Redbud) lustrous green during summer. Flowers: Pure cotton white emerging before foliage usually on old bark long lasting.


LILAC TREE

Syringa reticulata

"Ivory Silk" Lilac Tree

Height: 25 ft. Width: 15 ft. • LEAF COLOR: medium dark green 3 to 6 inches long, with tapered tip, slightly fuzzy underneath. HABIT: Graceful with spreading branches that form an oval to rounded crown. FLOWER: Large fragrant clusters of creamy white blooms in early summer (usually June), long dramatic show, flowers may be pruned to promote vegetative growth.
